The Graham Arms is a former Coaching Inn and was built about 200 years ago. In days gone by, the hotel was an overnight coaching stop; the horses would be put to graze in the fields to the rear of the hotel (long since built on) or, rested overnight in the hotel stables before continuing their journey to Edinburgh or London. Once the coaches had been cleaned and serviced, they were "garaged" in one of the two coaching stables at the rear of the building.The Graham Arms & Longtown make an ideal touring base for Scotland's Solway Coast & Border Regions, the English Lake District, Kielder Forest, Hadrian's Wall, romantic Gretna Green and of course the historic City of Carlisle.

This hotel is pefectly located for the scottish borders; the hotel is in a good state f repair with very good sized rooms and a clean feel. The Bar is lively and a welcome retreat in the evening although maybe no tfor those of a quiet disposition! The breakfast was excellent and incuded in the price. For the rate charged this is an excellent hotel with friendly staff and superb value fo rmoney.

The low marks I have given the hotel are in response to a very rowdy night in the hotel, to which I have already written! There was little consideration from some customers to others who had booked a room to sleep. I was able to sleep between 2.00am and 6.15am only.

Excellent value. Staff helpful and friendly. Good location for Carlisle and South Scotland.

Food served in the restaurant was excellent, as was the cooked breakfast. Hotel was easy to find on the main street. Manager and receptionists were very friendly.
