We were welcomed with a friendly greeting on arrival. The rooms were not however warm on a very chilly evening in Oban. The location was very convenient for the ferry although there was no option of a breakfast at 7am we could have helped ourselves to cereal. As I was traveling with my 9yo son I had hoped for some form of discount on the twin b&b rate considering we were receiving no breakfast. No discount was offered.
The room was comfortable and spacious enough, however on opening the bathroom door there was a burn mark on the bath and the shower head would not stay up so it was very difficult to have a shower. I had hoped to have a relaxing showe but ended up having to hold the shower in my hand while showering. Just one of those things that would cost £6 to fix and would have made all the difference to my stay!
Overall a friendly welcome, however a few minor changes could have made this a better stay.

Not the smartest hotel around, but adequate. Friendleness of the staff was out standing, they could not do enough for you. Woudl happily stay there again.

There was no obvious place to check in on arrival; I subsequently found out that this was at the bar. The accommodation was basic but confortable, however the hall could benefit from some redecoration. The staff were friendly particularly at breakfast.

The staff in the hotel were excellent. They made us very welcome upon arrival and were always on hand to answer any questions we had regarding the hotel or the local vicinity. The food was plain, wholesome and plentiful - we enjoyed it. Our room was clean and quite. It was only a 5 minute walk to the town centre.

Clean, cheap hotel in the heart of Oban. Friendly welcoming staff. I'd definitely go back there.

Dull, dank and dingey. Basic facilities. Very noisey. Faulty towers of oban!

The biggest bonus of this hotel is its proximity to both the rail and ferry terminals, which is why we were not happy on our first visit that a leaking roof had necessitated our accommodation elsewhere, further away, although this was in a much better, higher grade hotel. A taxi was arranged for us in the rain late at night, and we still only had to pay the originally agreed rate, so we would not complain. When we did stay at the Kelvin on our return we were well-treated and were grateful that a buffet continental breakfast was available (without hot drinks) before 7.30, when breakfast officially began, so that guests could catch the early train or ferries. The quality of the decoration in places leaves something to be desired, but one gathers that this Victorian building is still in the process of refurbishment.
